Who We Are

Our Story
Community Family Development grew out of a 1995 merger of two independent daycare centers which had been operating across the street from each other for more than 25 years. The Community Day Care Center, founded in 1967, was a project of the First Baptist Church; while Poughkeepsie Family Development and Day Care Center was formed in 1970 as a joint venture of the Dutchess County Child Development Committee.
As the largest non-profit daycare center in the region, we now serve nearly 100 children through programs that support emotional, social, and academic growth in a safe, nurturing environment. Community Family Development operates at one site, located at 269 Mill Street, with the goal of growing into a two-site operation.
Our Mission
We believe childcare is more than a service—it’s a commitment to creating a safe, supportive space where children can explore, develop, and succeed. Our programs are built to meet the needs of working families while promoting the emotional, cognitive, and social growth of every child in our care.

At Community Family Development, we are dedicated to making high-quality childcare accessible to all. Through continuous growth, advocacy, and a focus on equity, we work to ensure that every family—regardless of income—has access to the resources they need to thrive.
